Cross Culture

O

This research-led project explores how narratives shift across three cultural contexts: Singapore, India and Germany. I visualised classic stories and local myths through modular illustration systems, patterns and calendar concepts, reinterpreting each tale with the visual language of another culture. The work examines how colour, form and symbolism can be layered and remixed to create new, hybrid narratives without losing each culture’s distinctive identity. I analysed classic folk tales and local visual languages, then translated them into modular systems of patterns, symbols and characters. Using grids, fractals and iconography, I reimagined stories like “Hansel and Gretel” and Durga’s homecoming as cross-cultural visual maps and objects—such as calendars and prints—that layer occidental, oriental and Indian aesthetics without losing each culture’s distinct voice.
